This is true for me on the one hand because the heart is my medical focus and on the other hand because I love working with children and I enjoy it a lot.

I had wanted to become a pediatric cardiologist since my student days and it was a dream come true for me when I was able to start my specialist training with a focus on pediatric cardiology at the University Clinic for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at Vienna General Hospital. Today, my work focuses on cardiac ultrasound examinations and the minimally invasive treatment of congenital heart defects in the cardiac catheterization laboratory.

Around 1% percent of all children are born with a heart malformation, making heart defects the most common congenital malformations. The possible consequences can be very stressful for the child and their entire family, and massive uncertainty and anxiety are common.

This makes it all the more important to clarify symptoms and complaints in a professional manner and to explain and discuss the findings in detail. This should be done quickly, comprehensively and in an understandable and empathetic manner.
