No. An ultrasound is completely painless and radiation-free. A transducer is placed on the skin with some gel. Your children can sit or lie relaxed on their parents' laps during the procedure.
At what age can an ultrasound examination be performed?
From the first day of life. Cranial ultrasonography is particularly valuable in newborns because the brain can be directly assessed through the open fontanelle. Hip ultrasonography according to Graf is performed in the first weeks of life as part of the Mother-Child Pass.

Magnetic resonance imaging is used when ultrasound or other examination methods are insufficient. It is radiation-free and suitable for all organ systems. Small children often require sedation. Doctors will discuss with you whether an MRI is appropriate for your specific question and which clinic is best suited for performing it.
